UM3X Earphones
The newest addition to the high-end in-ear headphone market to be released on April 30th, the UM3X promises to deliver accurate stage monitoring, no matter which instruments (or vocal) you play.
Following the same shape of the legendary and successful UM2, the new UM3X comes with 3 micro drivers on each earpiece configured in a true 3-way crossover: 3 distinct drivers handling 3 distinctive frequency ranges.
Professional musicians will now have the only 3-way triple driver earphones with a Universal Fit (meaning you don't have to go to an audiologist to have your ear impressions taken).
Now the big question I am personally interested in the answer is: "Will these, perhaps, be an even better performer than the Westone 3 (designed for iPod owners and audiophiles for playback)?"
My hopes are high. There was always something that the UM2 handled better than the Westone 3 for my ears: listening fatigue. Although I always loved my Westone 3, I could always listen to my UM2 for longer hours without experiencing listening fatigue.
The UM2 are more balanced and flat than the Westone 3 which in comparison has a more extended high, which depending on the recording and on the song style, can be a bit piercing for those sensitive to higher frequencies.
If the UM3X earphones retain the sound signature of the UM2 and outperform them due to the third driver, this could well become my new all time favorite earphones.
While we don't have our sample yet, I can only hope. But I have to say I'm pretty optimistic that the UM3X will delivere just what I was looking for, although I am not a musician and I plan on using this baby with my iPhone :)
